OUR ORIGIN

IT ALL STARTED IN A TENT AT A HIGH CAMP ON CHO OYU, TIBET.

Our founder had climbed to 6,400 m hauling several kilograms of equipment.

A sinus infection had pushed her back behind her group’s schedule during acclimatization and she had climbed up alone to spend the night at altitude. Melting snow beneath the rays of her headlamp, with a mind full of doubts whether she could possibly make it to the top – or even through the night – she turned to her outdoor food pouch for comfort and energy. She found neither.

Hammered by the altitude, tired and further disheartened by the smell and taste of her food, she couldn’t eat more than a third. Her tongue still uncomfortably numb from some oily ingredients, she resolved to catch some sleep but a question kept coming back:

Is it really impossible to make good instant outdoor food?

A spark flared in her imagination,  but back in 2011 she left on the mountain what seemed to be just a crazy idea.

And yet, The Boss sings it best:

“You can’t start a fire without a spark”

3 years later she had heard of the Italian chef who created delicious comfort food for astronauts and a second thought sparked in her mind.
“He is the right one!” But it all still seemed so far away from her life as an aerospace engineer.

She was to learn that some things are just meant to be

Fast forward to 2016 at an airshow near Venezia. At Sara’s lunch table sit three friends and two new faces. One humbly introduces himself as Stefano until the serendipity fully unfolds and Sara realizes who sits at the table. What followed is a story of friendship and innovation to retire low quality outdoor food.
